Early 20th century British presentation trophy cup engraved 'Officers 17 Balloon Centre.' Balloon centres were units of the British military responsible for operating observation balloons used during World War I for reconnaissance and artillery spotting. These tethered balloons allowed observers to watch enemy movement from high above the battlefield, making them an essential part of early aerial warfare. The cup bears a presentation inscription from F.E. Ollivens and retains the warm patina and oxidation developed over time.
