An exceptional early 19th-century Staffordshire pickle dish in rich dark blue transferware, dating to circa 1820. Finely molded in a shell form with a dramatic scroll handle, this piece features a classic chinoiserie riverside scene with pagodas, bridges, and waterside pavilions—rendered in deep cobalt against a soft white ground.
Pickle dishes like this were fashionable table accents in Georgian England, used to serve condiments, relishes, and preserved fruits. Their sculptural forms and saturated color made them decorative centerpieces as much as functional serveware.
With its bold hue, crisp transfer, and elegant molded shape, this dish displays beautifully and brings instant character to any blue-and-white collection.
