An exceptional 19th-century Staffordshire meat strainer, decorated in a finely detailed blue-and-white pastoral landscape with castles, trees, and figures set along a riverbank. Traditionally used in the Victorian kitchen to strain juices from roasted meats, these pierced ceramic strainers were designed to sit over a platter, allowing liquids to drain cleanly while preserving presentation.
The oval form, softly rounded edges, and generous perforations reflect both function and craftsmanship, while the transferware scene speaks to Staffordshire’s long tradition of storytelling through ceramics. Today, this piece works beautifully with modern platters and also makes an excellent cheeseboard, cake plate, or versatile serving surface, offering countless styling and entertaining possibilities beyond its original use.
A rare survivor that bridges utility and display, equally suited to the table, kitchen wall, or open shelving.
