This vintage Italian carved alabaster stone persimmon is a classic example of midcentury Italian decorative stonework. Hand-carved from solid alabaster, it features softly mottled tones of peach, amber, and cream, with natural veining throughout. Subtle hand-painted “bruise” marks were often added to pieces like this to enhance realism—an intentional detail that gives the fruit its lifelike character rather than perfection.
Originally made as a decorative object, pieces like this were designed to add sculptural interest to interiors without shouting for attention. It works effortlessly today: styled in a bowl with other stone fruit, resting on a stack of books, or standing alone as a small objet with excellent presence.
