This authentic Victorian-era copper half-pint measure was used in the long-standing naval tradition of issuing daily rum rations to enlisted sailors throughout the 19th century. In the British Royal Navy, rum was diluted with water to create what became known as “grog,” and this vessel was used to portion each serving.

Stamped with the royal cipher Crown over VR 6, this example dates to Birmingham, 1876, during the reign of Queen Victoria. These utilitarian measures were essential tools aboard Royal Navy ships and are now highly collectible examples of maritime and military history.

Not intended for culinary use unless professionally retinned.
