An authentic Victorian-era English copper ½ gill rum/grog measure, used in the long-standing naval tradition of issuing a daily rum ration to enlisted sailors. In the British Royal Navy, rum was mixed with water to create “grog,” which was then portioned using measures like this.
Stamped with the royal cipher “VR 6” (Victoria Regina), this piece dates to the 1850s Birmingham district, a major hub for naval supply production. These were essential working tools aboard ships and dockyards, making surviving examples highly collectible today.
Beautifully worn with rich age patina and honest surface marks from decades of service. Not intended for modern culinary use unless professionally retinned.
