19thC Chinese Qing Dynasty Batavian Bowl

Qing dynasty (1644 to 1912) export porcelain bowl with blue and white decoration and Batavian brown glaze. Produced for trade in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), these bowls were valued for their intricate painting and practical form. A fine example of 19th-century Chinese export ware, it reflects the vital role ceramics played in maritime trade between China and Southeast Asia.
