Bourdaloue & Dictionnaire de la Conversation — 9 Volumes

A striking collection of nine original mid-19th-century French volumes, bound in richly aged leather with gilt titles and decorative tooling. This set includes two volumes from Œuvres Complètes de Bourdaloue (Paris, 1846) and seven volumes from the celebrated Dictionnaire de la Conversation, a cornerstone reference series of 19th-century French culture and thought.

The Bourdaloue volumes—published by Mellier Frères, Paris—contain theological and philosophical sermons by the famed Jesuit orator Louis Bourdaloue, whose writings were read by European courts and intellectual circles alike. The Dictionnaire volumes, numbered alphabetically, were designed as salon references—meant to live within reach of conversation, debate, and wit.

The leather shows honest wear, tonal shifts, and softened edges earned over more than 175 years. These are not imperfections — they are the visible poetry of age. Each spine carries its own patina, giving the set a beautifully layered, collected-over-time look.

Perfect for a library wall, a study, or as a dramatic shelf vignette where history and style meet.
