A refined mid-19th century Ridgeways serving dish in the coveted “Japan” pattern, c.1850s. Produced in Staffordshire during England’s fascination with Eastern decorative arts, this piece blends iron-red, cobalt, and floral enameling against creamy opaque china with confident symmetry and crisp transfer work.
The elevated pedestal form gives it quiet authority — ideal for sweets, preserves, olives, or as a striking compote at the center of a layered English table. Beautiful movement in the scalloped rim and classic proportions throughout. A polished example of Victorian Japanesque design from one of Staffordshire’s respected potteries.
