A truly exceptional and rarely encountered set of six English ironstone plates in the celebrated Gaudy Welsh Grapevine pattern, dating to circa 1850. Known for its bold cobalt florals and scrolling grapevine motifs, Gaudy Welsh was a striking departure from the restrained tablewares of the period—created to bring color, movement, and optimism to the Victorian table.
This example is especially scarce due to its unusual yellow accents, a highly desirable and seldom-seen colorway within the pattern. Finding a single plate in this palette is uncommon—finding a matched set of six is extraordinary.
Produced in England at the height of the Gaudy Welsh movement, these plates were made from durable ironstone and richly hand-enameled, intended for daily use yet treasured for their decorative impact. Today, they are prized by collectors for both their historic significance and visual drama.
Equally compelling as a wall display or layered into a grand table setting, this set is a museum-worthy survivor from the golden age of English transferware.
