Pearlware, developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the late 18th century, features a white body with a blue-tinted glaze, designed to imitate Chinese porcelain. Affordable and popular with the English middle class, it was widely produced in Staffordshire. The Willow pattern, created around 1790, was inspired by Chinese designs but is an English invention. It often depicts a romanticized scene based on the "Willow legend," where two lovers are transformed into doves to be together forever. The pattern became an enduring classic in blue and white ceramics.
